You want to show potential clients who you are, not only as a real estate agent, but also as someone who has interests and hobbies outside of work. Building connections on Facebook is a great way to remind people that you’re there when you’re ready to make their next move. Personalizing your Facebook page is the first step to maintaining connections with past, present and future clients.

Post photos
Photos are more engaging than text only posts and photos get viewed by more people. But make sure they’re appropriate. You don’t want to exclusively post photos of yourself in a suit, with a light blue background (a la your seventh grade school portrait.) It’s both predictable and boring. You might want to refrain from posting pictures of yourself doing shots or holding a whiskey at last year’s Christmas party. Try to find photos of yourself somewhere in the middle, such as photos of yourself hiking with the family or cheering on a local sports team.

On that note, share your life
Don’t be afraid to share what you’re doing or where you’re going, especially if it’s local. Did you have a great round at local golf course? Find some awesome apples and pumpkins at the local farm? Post a photo! Make sure to tag the local business in your post: if they’re active on Facebook, they might respond or share your post, which could lead to new followers and potential clients.

Share your hobbies
If you’re passionate about something, show it. It’s important to create an image of yourself not only as a brand, but as a human being. People want to do business with someone they could see themselves being friends with. So if you have a great interest in sports, share it. If you enjoy classic cars, post a photo from the local car show. Just make sure you post this kind of content in moderation: you want to share your personality, but you also don’t want to turn them off or forget about your main focus.

Keep things positive
Although you want to share your personality, you should really keep it professional and positive. We wish we didn’t have to remind people, but you shouldn’t post your thoughts about politics, religion or other controversial topics. Keep the content light. You can show personality without being polarizing.

Don’t overthink it
At the end of the day, showing your personality shouldn’t be a chore. After all, you’re being yourself. Each post is not going to change the world. It is the combination of all of the posts that creates a story for your audience, so just be active. And the more active you are, the better you will get and the more likely you will come up with creative ideas.
